Here’s a cold email play you can run to increase your open rates this week.

The Psychology 🧠 — Pattern interruption

A pattern interrupt comes from Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and is a way to change a person’s mental, emotional, or behavioral state or strategy.

Its history is actually in helping people overcome addiction and bad habits.

It’s a four-step process:

1. Identify the pattern
2. Derail it
3. Replace it
4. Practice it

Your prospects have thousands of hours processing email. And they see the same things hundreds of times over, which creates a pattern.

Salespeople have conditioned prospects to ignore just about everything. Look at the lines highlighted in red in the picture.

Most emails start out with…

“I was hoping…”

“I know…”

“I would like…”

“My name is…”

“I am…

We can derail the prospect’s normal pattern in a pretty simple way. Focus on them, instead of yourself.

Start your emails with…

“Your _____”

“What you _____”

“Love your _____”

“_____ was awesome”

“Does your _____”
